High-Energy Tumbling – Tumble Finishing Services
High-energy tumbling is the process of using centrifugal force to polish parts en masse. Materials that can be finished using high-energy tumbling machines include stainless steel, plastics and ceramics, as well as wood, corncob and walnut shell products. One of the major advantages of high-energy tumbling is its quickness: Parts can be finished in a matter of minutes in many cases. When time is of the essence, high-energy tumbling is the route to take.
High-energy tumbling involves placing parts that need finishing, media, water and a surfactant in a barrel. The barrel, which is sealed with a lid, is then rotated on a carousel holding four barrels. While the carousel spins one way, the barrels go the other direction. This creates a powerful centrifugal force that finishes the parts to the desired level.
At RP Abrasives, we use four high-energy tumblers. The machine pictured here has a capacity of 80 liters. We also have two 120-liter machines and one 20-liter machine. The machine that gets used hinges on the number of parts and the size of them. We prefer Mass Finishing Inc. tumbling machines because we find them to be the most reliable and durable. We also finish products using vibratory tumbling.
