Stainless Steel Passivation Services

stainless steel passivationStainless steel passivation is a chemical process that, when done right, improves the stain resistance of steel. Steel can never be stain-proof, but our passivation process makes it as close to that as possible. Through passivation, a protective microscopic film is allowed to form on the surface once exposed to the air or an open containing environment to protect from corrosion. For the non-chemists reading this, passivation simply means that with a proper wash, rinse and soak in a citric acid-based solution – and then a clean rinse and dry after – stainless steel parts will stay corrosion resistant.

Our Stainless Steel Passivation Services Include:

  • Passivating from small batch sizes to large 3'x3'x3' sizes
  • Passivate using deionized water and citric acid
  • Testing of passivated parts with a copper sulfate test
  • Cleaning of parts before passivation

RPA passivates in accordance to ASTM A-967-05.7(7.1.1 thru 7.1.1.5) and rinse 7.2 testing is preformed according to spec A-967-05.15 practice B. All parts are cleaned or descaled to ASTM spec A-380-06. 5.3, 6.2.1, 6.2.2, 6.2.5, 6.2.8, 6.2.11

Many of our medical and food industry customers have requested that we provide this service, as in many cases they are required to have passivation done by their industries. We provide this service so that we can be a "one stop shop" for our customers.

As we began to expand our capabilities to meet our customers' needs, we soon found that we could provide a new service on its own. Whether it's passivation or a particular washing process that is needed to meet certain specifications, we will work to provide it for our customers.

We passivate using r/o (reverse osmosis), deionized water. Also all our wash processes use this same filtered water,  this assures that your parts will be ultra-clean. All passivation is done ultrasonically as well as all our cleaning processes this allows for the solution to reach even the smallest crevices on a part. We wash materials from; stainless steel, aluminum, brass, titanium, and plastics.
